Welcome Back-General Body Meeting
Posted by ~Nawal~ for January 24, 2007
Assalamu Alaikum,

General Body Meeting and Welcome Back Event

MSA will be holding its Welcome Back event the same time as the General Body Meeting this semester in the Regency Rooms, SU on:

Tuesday, Jan 23, 12-2 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan 24, 12-2 p.m.

You can attend either meeting since the same information will be given out both days.

We highly encourage all of you to show up and bring friends who might not get this message. There are many things to be planned for this semester and we need your input to cater them to your preferences. Also we need your help and support in planning and preparing future MSA events, so please show up and get involved.

Aside future events, come to make MSA live up to its potential as one of the strongest student groups at UTD. The simplest way to make that happen is to regularly attend meetings and events. We all have much to learn about our deen, as well as much to learn about ourselves.

Getting to meet the other Muslims on campus is crucial, so expect icebreakers.
Did I mention there's food involved (what's a Muslim gathering without food)?

Keep in mind: Islamic Awareness Week 3/26-3/30

Islamic Contributions to WORLD CIVILIZATION
Posted by ~Nawal~ for February 23, 2007
Assalamu Alaikum,

Islamic Contributions to WORLD CIVILIZATION

R.B.Winder has said: "One of the hallmarks of civilized man is his knowledge of the past-- the past of his family, country, culture as well as the past of others who bare significantly contributed to the ascent of man."

Friday, February 23, 2007
6:00-8:30pm
Speaker: Sr. Reem Elghonimi

IANT Multipurpose Hall
840 Abrams Road
Richardson, TX 75081
972-231-5698

Learn about how Muslims have contributed to the way you live today! This is largely unknown civilizational legacy that Muslims bequeathed to the world. Before the Renaissance, medieval European history was silent in terms of the arts and sciences. Termed "History's Black Hole" by H.J. Morowitz, this is the myth that the development of classical knowledge from 1500 CE onwards owed to Greek and Roman contributions prior to 300 CE. This "Black Hole" of history, from 300 to 1500, actually saw the unparalleled rise of scientific, academic, medical, and scholarly contributions by adherents of the Islamic faith.

We invite men and women, as well as mature children (10 and up), from both the Muslim community and the community at large. No children under 10- babysitting will be available for younger children. Please support this event and invite friends, neighbors, work colleagues as well as teachers and school administrators!
